On Wednesday while I was at the northwest sound archive at Clitheroe Castle I came across a sound installation called Taken by a contemporary classical composer Aillis Ni Riain. The Installation is on in the castle Keep and inspired by the story of the Lancashire Witches. It imagines how the 12 individuals might have felt during there final four months in captivity whilst awaiting trail 400 years ago. I really enjoyed listening to the piece, it made me think about ideas such as past sound? Bringing them back? Personal feelings and emotions provoked by sound… and atmospheres in places that sound very different than they used to.
